Hailing from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, Hearn comes to the team with 46 World Series Sevens caps, achieving 73 caps total. The center has made nine World Cup appearances on the Canadian side during the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, 2015 Rugby World Cup in England and 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. The 2019 Canadian team faced a challenging pool, being placed with 2019 champions South Africa and 2015 champions New Zealand.
Outside of representing Canada, the center played professionally with London Irish in England’s premier rugby league since 2015.
On joining the DC club, Ciaran Hearn said, “I’m looking forward to starting a new adventure in Washington, DC. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and the Old Glory fans. It’s a rare opportunity to develop a brand of rugby players and fans will enjoy and I’m thankful to be a part of that.”
Andrew Douglas has followed Hearn’s success for a while. On his signing, Coach Douglas said, “It is important that a new club like Old Glory brings in players with experience and knowledge. Ciaran has that and will add a high level of professionalism to the club. He had a very good World Cup in Japan and I’m looking forward to that form continuing into the MLR for Old Glory.”
