Old Glory DC came away strong in the first-ever Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft today, landing two outstanding players that are nationally regarded as impact players and have huge MLR potential.

Hailing from South Burlington, VT, Casey Renaud recently graduated from Kutztown University, where he played four years for the varsity rugby program under Dr. Gregg Jones.  Renaud stands 6’8′, and weighs 245 pounds.  He is projected to play lock for Old Glory and is strong in the lineouts, both defensively and offensively.  Renaud was a key component in Kutztown’s recent Rugby East League title. Recently, Renaud trained in NZ and all reports say that he will come back ready to compete for a spot on the field.

Hailing from Aberdeen, Scotland, Matthew Gordon, 23, will graduate from the University of Mary Washington in 2021.  Gordon grew up and excelled as a participant in the Glasgow Warriors age-grade programs.  Three years ago, he was recruited by Mary Washington’s rugby club in Fredericksburg, VA where he excelled from day one. In 2018,  he was named the D1AA Defensive Player of the Year and led Mary Washington to the National Championship over Dartmouth in that same year.  Last year he represented the US All-American Program, starting at #4 vs Canada in a win.  Standing at 6’4 and weighing in at 245 pounds, Matthew’s highlight tape was an eye-opener for many teams and Goff Rugby Report had him projected as high as the 2nd pick.

Paired with yesterday’s signing of David Beach this gives Old Glory three new players that should alter the landscape with Casey standing 6’8″/245 lbs, David at 6’7″/255 lbs, and Matthew at 6’4″/245 lbs. All three of these young men are very skilled, but you cannot teach big.
