About Young Glory:

  1. What is Young Glory?

A high performance academy with limited numbers, aiming to produce professional rugby players of the future 

  1. Who is Young Glory for?

Aspiring young athletes looking to become college stars and professional rugby players of the future

  1. When does Young Glory start/end?

Combine dates –

Sunday 30th August 

West Potomac High School 

1pm-3pm

Wednesday 2nd September

Sandburg Middle School

8pm-9.30pm

Young Glory Dates – 

Young Glory start date – 14th September 2026

Young Glory end date – 15th January 2027

  1. What age groups can participate?

Ages 16, 17 & 18

If you turn 15 this fall you may attend

  1. What are the different Young Glory locations/areas?

Monday & Friday at Athletic Republic, Springfield, 7pm – 9pm 

Wednesday at Sandburg Middle School, Alexandria, 8pm – 9.30pm

  1. Does my child need to have played rugby before? 

Not necessarily, Young Glory is looking for extraordinary athletes but your child does need to join a rugby club and become a member of USA rugby for insurance purposes

  1. Is Young Glory suitable for both boys and girls?

Just boys for this program. More information to follow for Young Glory Girls 

Registration:

  1. How much is Young Glory? 

$800, can be split into 4 payments of $200 per month 

  1. How do I register my child?
    Sign up for the Combine Here 
  2. What does the registration fee include?

Professional coaching, weights and fitness programs, training t-shirt, 

  1. Can I register more than one child?

Yes

  1. Can my child try a session before registering?

No 

  1. What happens after I register?

Your child will enter the combine

  1. Is there a deadline to register?

Yes, the deadline is Friday 28th August 

Training:

  1. If I make the academy, when and where are sessions held?

Monday & Friday 7pm-9pm

16. What should my child bring?

Water, Mouth Guard, Cleats and Trainers

17. What should my child wear?

Shorts, TShirt and trainers and bring Cleats  

18. What happens if my child misses a session?

Sessions can be missed but academy players will be expected to attend at least 2 out of the 3 sessions per week 

19. What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

Monday and Friday are indoor sessions, the only thing to stop outdoor Wednesday sessions would be lightening or heavy snow on the ground

20. Who coaches the sessions?

Simon Cross will lead all sessions with the help of other qualified coaches 

21. Are the coaches qualified and background checked?

Yes

22. Can I join the academy if i am part of a football team?

Yes, we do not want to alienate multi sport athletes

Rugby & Player Development:


23. Will the academy play matches?

There will be a limited number of competitive matches.
The program is centered around preparing athletes for their spring season, rather than playing matches for Young Glory

24. Will the academy be grouped according to age and ability?

Yes, all players will be training together, but contact skills will be separated into weight categories 

25. What skills will my child learn?

Generic rugby skills, including hand catch, ball presentation, offloading and tackling. A large focus on weight lifting and conditioning, as well and speed, agility and quickness

26. Can complete beginners take part?

Yes, providing they demonstrate extraordinary athletic ability. Young Glory Academy encourages cross over athletes 

27. Can experienced players take part?

Yes

Parents:

28. Do parents need to stay during sessions?

No

29. Can parents watch training?

Yes, you are welcome to stay and watch
30. Are there opportunities for parents to get involved?

No
31. Who should I contact if I have a question about my child?

Safety & Welfare:

32. How do you keep the children safe?

Tackling and contact conditioning will take place on wrestling mats. Coaches will be delivering the latest techniques and best practices.

33. What if my child has a medical condition, allergy or additional need?

Please inform the coaches


34. Who should I speak to about safeguarding concerns?

There is free parking onsite


36. Are there changing facilities/restrooms?
