MAJOR LEAGUE RUGBY AND OLD GLORY DC ANNOUNCE 2020 SCHEDULE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — (Washington, DC – September 23, 2019):  Major League Rugby (MLR) today announced the 2020 regular-season schedule for its 12 teams.  Old Glory DC will open its inaugural MLR season on February 8th In New Orleans against NOLA Gold Rugby.  For its 2020 home opener, Old Glory will host the back-to-back MLR champion Seattle Seawolves on February 16.

 

The schedule for the 2020 MLR season has been much anticipated, bringing with it not only a new league structure, but also the addition of three new teams: Rugby ATL, the New England Free Jacks, and Old Glory DC. The regular season will feature 96 matches and is set to kick off on Saturday, February 8, 2020, continuing over 17 weeks, concluding on May 31, 2020.

 

DC’s first professional rugby team will enter MLR in the league’s third season. This season features an Eastern and Western conference-style structure, with each team playing ten in-conference games (a home-and-away series with each conference member) and six cross-conference games. The 2020 MLR season will conclude with a five-match Championship Series with a Championship Game of East versus West.

 

All of Old Glory’s eight home games are scheduled on weekends, including seven games on Sundays and one game on a Saturday. The schedule features holiday home games on President’s Day Weekend (Feb. 16 vs. Seattle), Easter Weekend (April. 11 vs. NOLA), and Memorial Day Weekend (May 24 vs New England).

  • February 16– Home opener at versus the defending MLR champion Seattle Seawolves
  • March 8 – Old Glory DC host inaugural-season team, Rugby ATL
  • March 15 – Old Glory DC host the 2018 MLR runner-up Glendale Raptors
  • March 29  – The team host the predicted team rivals, Rugby United NY
  • April 11 – Washington welcomes NOLA Gold on Easter Weekend
  • April 26 –  The team host the Canadian squad, Toronto Arrows
  • May 3 – Old Glory host the Utah Warriors on Sunday
  • May 24 – Old Glory face the New England FreeJacks over Memorial Day Weekend
