Old Glory is excited to announce the return of Matthew Gordon to the DC squad for the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

“We’re pleased to see Matthew back for 2022,” said Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “We’ve already seen a more mature, focused Matt in pre-season sessions and we’re looking forward to seeing that transpire to an effective player next season. Matt’s an excellent athlete who will be a big offensive and defensive threat for us. It’s great to have him back.”

“I’m looking forward to representing my city this season on behalf of Old Glory,” said Matt Gordon. “Getting to live in Washington, DC has given me such an appreciation for the States, and I am proud to put on the jersey for Old Glory. This season will be a great opportunity to apply all of the skills I’ve learned in Scotland and the US alike.”

Hailing from Aberdeen, Scotland, Gordon grew up and excelled as an athlete in the Glasgow Warriors age-grade programs.  Three years ago, he was recruited by Mary Washington’s rugby club in Fredericksburg, VA where he excelled from day one. In 2018,  he was named the D1AA Defensive Player of the Year and led Mary Washington to the National Championship over Dartmouth in that same year. In 2020, Gordon was selected in the 2nd round of the Major League Rugby draft by Old Glory and later signed to the squad.
