Medstar Health Returns As Old Glory DC’s Official Medical Partner For The 2021 Major League Rugby Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — (Washington, DC – March 10th, 2021) – MedStar Health, the leading not-for-profit health organization of the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area, returns as Old Glory DC’s official medical partner for the 2021 Major League Rugby season.

As a part of this partnership, MedStar Health will work with Old Glory DC throughout the 2021 Major League Rugby season to provide the best care and medical oversight for players.  MedStar Health has appointed Meghan Wilkinson, LAT, ATC, to return to oversee athletic training coverage for the 2021 Old Glory DC season.  Wilkinson earned a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Miami University of Ohio.  Meghan’s previous team experience includes George Mason Club Football, Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, and professional physical therapy in New York with outreach to St. Mary’s High School athletics.  Additionally, MedStar Health has appointed Dr. Christian Glaser as the team’s Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician, who will function as the Head Team Physician and Chief Medical Officer.

“MedStar Health is thrilled to renew our medical partnership with Old Glory DC,” said Sean Huffman, VP of Sports Medicine, MedStar Health. “It’s been a collaborative partnership in planning for the upcoming season and navigating the challenges presented by COVID-19, so we’re looking forward to being on the sidelines again with the team this year.”

“Rugby is among the most physically demanding of sports.  In any year, we require the consistent support of the finest sports medicine professionals to keep our players fit, healthy, and performing on the pitch,” said Old Glory owner Chris Dunlavey.  “Of course, this year, as we begin our season while the country is still beginning its emergence from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s all the more important that we have real pros guiding us in our monitoring and care.  On all those levels, MedStar Health is the right answer for us.”

Old Glory DC will play eight home regular-season matches at Segra Field beginning the weekend of March 27. The season will culminate with the MLR Championship match on August 1.

Virginia has extended its capacity to 1,000 patrons during outdoor events, including professional sports venues – a number which will allow for safe social distancing in the 5,000-seat Segra Field.  Only about 100 season tickets remain available under updated Virginia COVID-19 restrictions.  We cannot guarantee single-game tickets will be available until state policy is further eased, and we urge our supporters to secure their access on gameday by claiming season tickets now.
