OGDC Salvages Two Bonus Points in Narrow Loss to Miami

Old Glory DC returned home this week, hungry to bounce back after a tough loss to NOLA Gold. Awaiting them were the Miami Sharks, eager for revenge after their dramatic Week 1 defeat to OGDC. With playoff implications looming in a tightening Eastern Conference, both teams came in ready for a fight. Ultimately, it was Miami who edged out the win, handing Old Glory their second consecutive loss of the season—the first time that’s happened in 2025.

OGDC came out firing. After an early yellow card to the Miami scrumhalf, Perry Humphreys sliced through the defense and stretched over a Sharks defender to dot down within the first two minutes. Jason Emery added the extras, giving DC a 7-0 lead.

But that momentum didn’t last.

Miami stormed back, piling on 31 unanswered points in a devastating 20-minute stretch. Old Glory finally broke the silence just before halftime, following a sustained period of pressure deep inside Miami’s 22. After repeated penalties and scrums, the OGDC forwards battered the line with a series of powerful pick-and-go carries. Eventually, Tevita Naqali forced his way over in the 42nd minute. Emery’s conversion brought the halftime score to 31-14.

DC came out in the second half chasing another miracle comeback. In the 49th minute, Nick Grigg exploded through the line off a five-meter scrum and dove over for the try. Emery slotted the conversion, closing the gap to 10.

Ten minutes later, the momentum stayed with DC. Facundo Gattas, fresh off the bench, capitalized on a Miami lineout error—snatching an overthrow near the five-meter line and crashing in for the try. With another Emery conversion, the lead was cut to just three, 31-28, and Old Glory looked poised to take control.

But Miami wasn’t done.

The Sharks responded quickly with a penalty goal after the restart, then added another in the 72nd minute to extend their lead to 37-28. Even after two yellow cards reduced Miami to 13 men, OGDC couldn’t find a quick enough breakthrough. Brady Daniel added a try as time expired, securing their second bonus point for the close loss and scoring four tries, but it wasn’t enough. Final score: 37-35 to Miami.

The story of the match was Miami’s first-half blitz, a 27-minute scoring spree that proved too much for DC to overcome. Old Glory battled relentlessly and worked hard for every point—but ultimately ran out of time.

Despite the defeat, OGDC earned two critical bonus points and remain in third place in the East, with five of six teams still in playoff contention. Next up: a tough road test against the Western Conference-leading Houston SaberCats (6-3). DC (4-5) needs a result to stay in the hunt. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET next Saturday, April 26.
