Old Glory DC is excited to announce Margaret “Margy” Dessypris Thomas as the 2022 Old Glory DC With Her Award Recipient. This award is presented to an individual or group who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the advancement of women’s rugby in the Washington Metropolitan and Capital Rugby Union area through achievements in the sport, on the field, and/or at the workplace.

Through their personal and professional example, the recipient has inspired women and girls and demonstrated a lasting commitment to the growth of rugby and physical activity for all women and girls.

Margy’s nomination states: “Margy has given so much to the growth of rugby in her area, but more specifically to womxn’s rugby. She is actively involved in referee mentorship, scheduling, coaching, and development in Virginia Rugby and Capital Rugby. She has always fought the good fight to make sure womxn and folks of color have a voice at the table in addition to having their voices heard. In addition to being a full-time worker and mother of two, Margy finds ways to spend every weekend involved in some form of rugby and integrate it with her local community. For more than two decades, she has contributed to the overall growth of womxn’s rugby by looking at competition structures and the league set up, in addition to orchestrating coordination between teams and unions across the country to lessen the gaps between WPL, D1, and D2 to increase its own level of play. The entire mid-Atlantic region is grateful for Margy.”

The Old Glory DC With Her Award recipient represents the values of Old Glory DC – respect, inclusion, community, integrity, and passion. This award will be presented to women in the community every March in the upcoming years based on a nomination process. Congratulations, Margy!
