Old Glory DC is excited to welcome utility back Renata Roberts-Tenana to the 2020 squad

Renata hails from Ruatoria, New Zealand, a small town on the east coast of the north island known for the abundance of seafood.  The back claims the Ruatoria City club as his local club team.  Coming from a rugby-dense community, Roberts-Tenana grew up surrounded by the sport and grew into a versatile back with experience at fullback, flyhalf, and wing.

An accomplished 7s player, the back competed in several competitions with a representative Northland Rugby Union squad. In 2016, Renata joined North Harbour during the New Zealand National Rugby Sevens Tournament.  The team contended for the championship but ultimately lost in the final against Counties Manukau.  In 2017, Roberts-Tenana traveled to Dubai to participate in the Dubai International Invitational 7’s Tournament with the Speranza.  The team claimed a deserved victory the championship with the versatile back on its side

Most recently, the wing joined the Northland squad in the Mitre 10 Cup in 2018, in which the representative squad finished 4th in the championship division. Roberts-Tenana returned to join the squad during 2019 Mitre 10 Cup run.

On joining Old Glory, Renata said, “I’m super excited for an opportunity to meet new people and add what I can to the culture already in place at Old Glory.  Rugby is a great tool to make life-long friendships, so I’m chomping at the bit to use it as a vehicle to get to know the people, culture, and community within the Washington area.”
