Old Glory DC signs 2020 Game-Changer and Old Glory Co-Captain Mungo Mason
In Old Glory DC’s inaugural season, Mungo Mason quickly became a crowd favorite, known for his powerful line breaks and tackle-breaking runs on offense and “everywhere-at-once” defense on the pitch. The team co-captain played 400 minutes at flanker in five matches and ended the shortened season with 52 ball carries over 353 meters, four line-breaks, and eight tackle-breaks.
“Old Glory took the first steps towards something special last year,” said Mungo Mason. “Now we get to see out that journey in 2021. I’m pumped.”
Mason collected the titles for most tackles and most ball carries on the Old Glory squad during the 2020 season. Across the entire MLR, Mason falls third in most tackles made and fourth for most ball carries.
“Mungo was one of the most consistent back-rowers in the MLR last season and having him back establishing our club is immense,” said Coach Douglas. Douglas praised Mason’s on-field intelligence during the 2021 season, dealing with on-field situations calmly and thoughtfully alongside co-captain Thretton Palamo.
“Plus, being a qualified lawyer helps him deal with referees,” jokes Douglas. “Working alongside him was very enjoyable. He is prepared to question and challenge if he thinks it will help the team, and that is great for a coach.”
Fans will be able to see Mungo Mason take the pitch during opening weekend on March 20th. Sign up for our newsletter and follow the team during the 2021 MLR campaign.
