Old Glory announces the signing of Rob Irimescu to the squad for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Over the 2021 MLR season with Rugby United New York, the hooker and back row played in 8 matches, carried for 49 meters, made 17 successful tackles, and arrived at 33 rucks.

“I’m incredibly excited to join DC for this 2022 MLR Season,” said Irimescu on signing with Old Glory. “The culture, the fans, and the environment are infectious, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I’m eager to get to work with the boys!”

“Rob is looking for the opportunity to take his rugby to another level, and we feel we can provide that for him,” said Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “He’s had a couple of seasons at New York playing behind Dylan Fawsitt. Now he has the opportunity to force a starting place for Old Glory. Rob is a well-liked player, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring both on and off the field.”

Rob graduated from Penn State in 2019, and during his time at university, he was a member of the rugby team and helped the squad win back-to-back D1A Rugby East Conference titles. He was selected to the All-Rugby East Second Team once and the First Team twice. He was also named Rugby East’s Forward of the Year.

In 2019, he was called up by USA Rugby to the Men’s Collegiate All-Stars XVs. The squad took a win over Canada University All-Stars, prior to the USA Men’s National Team test against Canada at Infinity Park in Glendale, CO, in 2019. His skill on the pitch earned him a place on USA Rugby’s Men’s Collegiate All-American list twice.
