Old Glory is excited to welcome back Renata Roberts-Tenana to the DC squad for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. During the 2021 season, Renata played in all 16 matches, clocking over 1,200 minutes of playing time. He accounted for five tries and carried for 1,197 meters over 105 ball carries. In addition, Renata accounted for 49 tackle breaks, 10 line breaks, and 636 kicking meters.

“Renata had a great 2021 Major League Rugby season,” said Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “His talent with ball in hand and creating opportunity, not just for himself, but for his teammates, is invaluable. I’m sure Renata will bring that excitement back for 2022. He’s a big part of our culture, and we love his energy and passion for Old Glory. We can’t wait to see him back in DC.”

“My one and only goal is bringing a Championship to the DMV, and 2022 is when it’s going to happen,” said Roberts-Tenana. “I can’t wait to get on the ground and meet the new boys and reconnect with some of the old ones to start building our culture, team, and energy. This will be my 3rd year playing for Old Glory, and each year gets harder, so I am looking forward to the challenge this year brings my teammates and me.”

The utility back hails from Ruatoria, New Zealand, a small town on the east coast of the north island known for the abundance of seafood, and claims the Ruatoria City club as his local club team. From a rugby-dense community, Roberts-Tenana grew up surrounded by the sport and grew into a versatile back with experience at fullback, flyhalf, and wing.

An accomplished 7s player, the back competed in several competitions with a representative Northland Rugby Union squad. In 2016, Renata joined North Harbour during the New Zealand National Rugby Sevens Tournament. The team contended for the championship but ultimately lost in the final against Counties Manukau. In 2017, Roberts-Tenana traveled to Dubai to participate in the Dubai International Invitational 7’s Tournament with the Speranza. Again, the team claimed a deserved victory in the championship with the versatile back on its side.
