Old Glory DC is pleased to announce the return of Stan South for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The second row played in 10 matches for Old Glory during the 2021 season. Strong in the pack, he carried for 319 meters over 65 ball carries, arrived at 241 rucks, completed 81 successful tackles, and earned 47 lineout takes over the season.
“Stan had a great MLR season in 2021 until his injury halted the remainder of the season for him,” said Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “Stan’s lineout leadership and aggressive play was a benefit to Old Glory last season. In his 2nd year in the competition, I believe he’ll be even better. I’m looking for more leadership from Stan, and his lineout leadership will be invaluable.”
“I can’t wait to get back to the club and in for the new season,” said South on returning to DC for the 2022 season, “I’m really excited to be back in DC alongside my teammates playing in front of our loud and rowdy crowd at Segra Field.”
Stan played in the Harlequins Academy in 2014-2015 and made his professional debut with the senior side against Gloucester in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in February 2015. Having played 30 times for the Harlequins senior side, he joined the Exeter Chiefs on a one-year deal in 2019.
Stan was selected for both England’s U18s and U20s and was a member of the England U20 side that went on to win the World Rugby U20s Champions Cup in 2016.
