Thretton Palamo Returns for 2022

Old Glory DC is pleased to announce the return of USA Eagle Thretton Palamo for the 2022 Major League Rugby Season. Palamo co-captained the Old Glory squad during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Palamo played in 11 matches for 831 total minutes of match time in the 2021 MLR season. He accounted for four tries from 73 ball carries for a total of 628 carry meters. The center also had 24 tackle breaks and six line breaks and had 55 passes and eight offloads.

“I’m excited for another opportunity to represent the OGDC community. Time to put in work with the brothers and get this 2022 season rolling,” said Thretton Palamo on returning to Old Glory in 2022.

“Thretton is a genuine leader and such an important cog in the OG machine,” said Old Glory Head Coach Andrew Douglas. “He is one of the most genuine, likable people you’ll meet, but he is a real threat and menace on the field. It’s great to have him commit to OG, and I’m excited to continue our journey together.”

Born in Woodland, California, Thretton attended Davis Senior High School, playing basketball and football. He began playing rugby at age 16 for San Francisco Golden Gate, alongside his two older brothers, Toshi and Seta. While in high school, Thretton played for national teams in Samoa, where his father Arona was born. He played for the Samoa Under-19s from 2005-2007 (making three appearances) and played sevens for Samoa before, prior to turning 18, he committed to playing for the USA national team. From 2007-2008, the center made five appearances for the USA Under-20s and was selected for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, where he earned his Senior debut on September 30 against South Africa. This made him the youngest player to play in an RWC at age 19 and 8 days.

Thretton has since made 17 US National team appearances, starting for the Eagles 13 times and playing in the 2007 and 2015 Rugby World Cups. His last international match was against Tonga on November 19, 2016. In 2019, he joined Major League Rugby competition, signing first with the Houston SaberCats. He was reunited with his coach Blake Burdette from the University of Utah before joining Old Glory in 2020.
